Lara Martin
Lara Martin is a singer songwriter and actor who studied theatre, music and dance at the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. She has been singing for as long as she can remember. To her, the desire to express one self musically is innately human and accessible to everyone. She believes that music can be a powerful transformative tool that balances the mind and heart and elevates the spirit.
Lara has sung in choirs and music ensembles since childhood. She has performed music around the world in Scotland, Uganda, Cameroon and the Congo. Lara has performed music in a diversity of styles and settings which include musical theatre, classical music in choral groups, African folk songs, jazz at weddings, and she has sung back up for folk acts, and a hip hop band.
In the past year and a half she has been focusing on writing her own material and performing around Toronto and surrounding areas. She recently released her first EP entitled “For Giving”. Some of the music from “For Giving” was featured in DramaWay’s 2009 play “Beyond the Forbidden: A Journey for Colour”. In addition, Lara has been a teacher of art, music and drama through various organizations which include: Discoverability, Abelard Centre for education, St Albans Boys and Girls club, and the Avenue Road Arts School. She has also been working for DramaWay for the past two years and has truly loved it!
